Your membership year will remain the same as it is now, so you will effectively be a Silver card holder until Jan 2014. With renewals, you wouldn't have reset your year, even on the old scheme. However, the advantage now (as you point out), is that you only(!) need to make up the additional points to get to gold, rather than your TPs being reset.
