Re-qualifying for silver - what happens next?

Hi all,

In this brave new world of BAEC, I'm still not quite sure that I understand what's going to happen on Sunday when I go 5TPs over my target to regain silver status and I wondered if someone could help me understand (or at least check that what I've understood is correct...)

So currently my BAEC account says:
Membership year ends: XX Dec 2012
Card expiry date: YY Jan 2013
To retain Silver membership you need an additional: 55 Tier Points
On Sunday (well, whenever the TPs get round to posting) my status will change to say something like:

Gain promotion to Gold membership: 1095 points.
Now, as I understand it, I have until XX Dec 2012 to get those additional 1095 TPs (not likely, unless I get a client outside Europe), but what will happen to my card expiry date and membership year details in the account? Will my card expiry date become 06 May 2013 (or whatever the date the re-qualification happens, plus one year) or will it become YY Jan 2014 (my current expiry point, plus one year). I'd (obviously!) prefer the second option as it'd actually give me the two years of silver status I've earned , but IIRC the first option (i.e. you finish your current membership year early and start a new one for 12 months from that point) is what used to happen with re-qualification when TPs reset.
