I am not sure, but I think what happens here is that for CPU, under 120 hours before departure, GS should have priority over elites on B/M fare [I do not believe that GS have priority over elites on Y fare since it books into an inventory that matches # of F seats available and the only way to have GS trump Y fare elites is to book the GS directly into F inventory], but if they use an instrument, they will fall behind elites on YBM fare and GS vying for an upgrade via CPU.
They will still be GS and have GS priority, just will be pooled with "paid upgrade" group.
