I measure my walking activity in two ways, one on my Runkeeper app and the other with my Fitbit. With the Runkeeper it is only specific exercise sessions that I keep track of and wear a heart rate monitor most of the time (I typically don't travel with the monitor but I do track using Runkeeper). This can be outside or using a treadmill (90% outside). If on the treadmill I use the meter info. These are specific, non-stop exercise periods (except for the occasional traffic light etc.) The FitBit number is all activity, including the specific exercise sessions but also walking down the hall at work and such.
Using the specific exercise periods on Runkeeper I did 27.8 miles in March. I did 45.6 miles in April. I was sedentary in January with no real walking so I am pretty happy about the progress. I got my Fitbit in late January and started using Runkeeper in February. I only did 3.1 miles on the Runkeeper in February. I will post the FitBit numbers later. I need to download the end of April data.
Based on the Fitbit I did 70 miles total walking in February, 107 miles on March and 125 miles in April.
