No she does not travel a lot, she is a korean studying abroad. I had to convince her to sign up for a frequent flyer account. I think the ticket was purchased externally so that explains the extra $50. I'm not quite sure why she wasn't able to check in online, but thought maybe that would be one reason to fight it because she certainly would have been checked in soon enough if not for that. It's especially sad they wouldn't bend the rules a few minutes for a student. Sometimes the GAs will take a little pity on novice flyers, but she got stuck. I think the computers are locking out late checkins these days, so there is very little slack.
