It did not extend the expiration date in any of my family member's accounts.
Was there anything to transfer? I created CO accounts for every family member and transferred 1000 miles to extend their expiration date. I made sure that on 3/3, there were miles in both CO and UA accounts so that something would transfer on 3/3/12. Their expiration dates are all 9/30/2013. None of them have had any other activity since 3/3.
