I remember receiving a sticker years ago at the old Taiwan airport during WBC check in. The agent told me that it is to that they could identify NW passengers in the airport easily.

I've seen stickers being given out in other locations to passengers who didn't seem to speak much English, frequently elderly people who seemed like inexperienced travelers.
