I'm basically asking if it's worth the time/inconvenience/difficulty to go via URT, rent a car, and take the ferry vs. spending the extra ~$500 to get a direct flight (for 2) BKK-USM.
I'm on Samui now, and I flew to URT and got a car. Stopped in Khanom for 2 nights along the way, that's one of the reasons to get the car. Khanom is nice.
Airport to the ferry is an hour drive, ferry goes every hour and takes 90 minutes. Car ferry with 2 people is about 600 baht one way.
