This is not about daylight vs darkness, this is about your body rhythm.
Yes, you do have to get up early, especially if you have a bit of a journey to the airport... but you're not forced to spend time in an aircraft seat that you would normally spend asleep in your bed, and that's what makes all the difference.
You land mid afternoon body time, you typically get to your hotel or home early evening body time and feel ready to go to bed because you got up early.
not to mention the fact that most flight attendants seem to have a thing against passengers leaving the shades up during the day....(
