Bangkok to Samui by train is an trip that everyone does only once. It's an experience - but everyone then decides flying is more comfortable, quicker and more convenient.

Similarly with flying Air Asia to Surat Thani and taking the boat to Samui. It may sound like a good idea and looks cheaper - but it really isn't worth the hassle, especially in bad weather.
