With the BRG, you'd be better off booking directly with IHG although YMMV with BRG. Unless your savings are significant, I would not go with a third party.
I found that the VIP lounge was a good stop to grab a light breakfast and coffee/juice.
Typically, rates are cheaper during the week so if you're going to use points, the best vaue would likely be for Friday night.
