I'm a Diamond member and I was hoping to book two rooms (5 of us in total) for a stay this summer. I was hoping to upgrade to suites for both the rooms - by using a suite upgrade cert for my room, and GP Points for the other.
In my experience (admittedly in the Middle East and not in the US) taking a suite upgrade still gave you access to the Regency / Grand Club at which we were staying. However, after a phone call to the front desk at the HR in SF, I was told categorically that only Club rooms had access to the Regency Club, and guests in suites did not.
Anyone have any experience of this at the HR in SF?
Will we still have access to the Regency Club if we upgrade to suites, or am I better off just upgrading to Club Rooms (saving me a few points and a suite upgrade cert!)
Thanks!

I'll admit that I don't have first hand knowledge at this hotel with your situation, but based on my experience, what the hotel told you is correct.
I think your idea to upgrade to Club rooms is the best option. Since you're Diamond, it's possible, but not guaranteed, that your second room could also receive a complimentary upgrade to a Club floor. It's at the hotel's discretion.
I've used a suite upgrade cert at HR SF and the entry level suite is the Embarcadero suite. It's not worth it, in my opinion. It's basically a studio suite.
