Fodor is offering their New York City Guide app for iOS for free. They say this is for a limited time.

Rated 4+/5. I've found it useful because the guide is integrated with Google Maps well.

It is usually sold at $5.99 and the price decreased to free for the first time. Once you downloaded it, and then even if you deleted it, you can keep the right to download it again permanently (with some exceptions).

In addition to the NYC guide, they are giving away LON, ROM, PAR, SFO and BCN editions.
