Quick qs about travelling with wife and infant

Hi Guys, I am headed out with wife and our daughter (who is about 4 months old). I am Delta Gold but my wife does not have any status. Chances are I will get upgraded and she won't. This has happened in the past and I usually give her my seat so she can enjoy a comfortable ride. I would like to do this if it happens again.

What is the best way to make sure that I don't screw up things. I have seen on here that some FA or GA are pretty harsh with people switching cabins. Do you think I will have a problem with that? I plan on approaching the GA before flight boards and kindly request her that we will be switching seats.

Any help is appreciated! Thank you.
