Note that this does incur the charges related to changes and off line booking fees. (a small price to pay considering the prize)
On the 1st call I made it clear that it was my intention to use the 2-4-1 and wanted returns in F to SYD. As the return was not available on the system until around 3 weeks time the sectors that were available were booked there and then. I was then advised to call back on date X when the returns would show on the system.
On the second call I said that I was phoning to add the return sectors, this was completed without any fuss and as if this was the norm.
That's very interesting, and a big improvement on the risk I had to take.
I booked the outbound on the day it became available, but then when I called to book the return I couldn't, I had to cancel the outbound to create the return journey. Luckily, my miles and the seats re-appeared within seconds enabling me to book the tickets I wanted. I think I would have cried if they didn't!
