Somewhat excessive? Unless I need the passenger space I always rent the smallest available car or a hybrid. It's more impressive to show that you're environmentally conscious than to drive a tank around town imo.

The Sheraton Miyako is usually decently priced. It's a bit aged but it's not bad imo. The location isn't great (shuttle to nearest JR station... forgot if it's Meguro or Shinagawa) but it's not exactly suburban either. The location is actually quite good if you're using HND.
