NZ passport entering Schengen

My experience of using an NZ passport:

Entering Schengen:

France - by Eurostar/plane, they simply stamp my passport, no questions asked (once the officer said 'ooh, Nouvelle-Zealande' - this was at a small regional airport and probably the first time she encountered a kiwi ); by ferry from England they just wave me through at Dover and Calais

Czech Republic and Switzerland - no questions, quick scan and stamp

Netherlands and Portugal - few brief questions (length and purpose of stay), quick scan and stamp

Spain - no questions, but the officer at BCN spent a good minute examining my biometric passport (i don't know why, but maybe he was checking to see it wasn't forged?), stamp but no scan (presumably no need as Spain uses APN?)

Leaving Schengen:

France - by ferry to England, again simply waved through; by plane the officer glanced at the photo page and no scan or stamp

Belgium - officer was on the phone, glanced at the cover, said 'ooh, New Zealand', opened a page and stamped it, no scan

Spain - no questions and no scan, just a stamp (presumably no need to scan as Spain uses APN?)

Switzerland, Netherlands and Portugal - no questions, just a quick scan and stamp

Germany - officer wanted to locate my Schengen entry stamp, but couldn't find it so I had to point it out and took some time, otherwise just a quick scan and stamp

Maybe Schengen immigration officers are more relaxed with Kiwis because we are allowed to stay for up to 90 days in each Schengen country, except a few Eastern European ones? (Rather than the normal Schengen-wide 90 days in a 180 day period rule for other non-EU citizens who don't need a Schengen visa)
