Chase, Prepayments, Credit Balances
There have been questions about wanting to charge more than the credit line. I looked at my Chase statement today. I have a $5000 credit line, $36 in pending charges, a credit balance of $200, and "Available Credit" of $4964.
So apparently you can still only have $5000 in pending charges. You could not, for example, have a $5000 credit balance and $5000 credit limit and then charge $9900. You would probably have to charge $5000, then wait until it goes from pending to posted, then you could charge the other $4900.
So in practice it means that no matter what your credit balance is, you can only charge your credit limit every few days.
This probably has nothing to do with my most recent payment. It was a week ago, so it has probably cleared. And if it has not, and they were "dinging" me for that, I would not have as much as $4964 in available credit, I'd have less.
