I don't think that is correct for the UA card I thought I read on UA's site that the flight had to be booked with the UA card to qualify for the free luggage allowance. I had booked a flight but not with the UA card. According to the T&C, my flight did not qualify for the free checked luggage allowance. I was indeed charged for my checked luggage.

Don't know about the AA card.
