Even when I worked in fast food, employees were expected to take their breaks in the break area. We were not to eat or hang out in the public area. A hotel employee taking a nap in the lobby is unprofessional and most likely against policy.
There is little doubt, at least in my mind, that it is against policy for ANYBODY to be sleeping on the couch. More the question is if the OP should "angle" to get something out of this or if he should move on with life.
