Yes, I can definitely see how the entitlement of the very poor who rely on tips would be offensive to those who fly around the world in F-class. Don't the poor know they are neither to be seen nor heard nor supported for working or for not working? They're lucky to even make wage -- after all, it hasn't always been that way!
It has nothing to do with offensive, and it's a shame this thread (and issue) is degrading to personal attacks.
IMO, it is not my job to supplement others' income. The price of housekeeping is already included in the rate I pay the hotel, and so I see no reason to pay more for it. This has nothing to do with how much you're paying, whether 10$ at a dingy hostel or several K for a 5*.. you're paying for this basic service, so you should get it.
This isn't about being mean, or cheap - and remember that not all F flyers have always been F flyers. I know all too well what living on minimum wage is like, but it still feels silly to get tipped for doing my job.
Plenty of other minimum wage workers don't make tips (do you tip the cashier at a supermarket?), why should housekeepers? Because you're guilty?
