So, your suggestion is that your American waiter, simply by signing up to work in an American restaurant in which American pay customs prevail, deserves not to get paid when he or she waits on you, simply because that person has failed to sacrifice their job to initiate a large scale job action to overturn a long-standing, well-entrenched system?
Shouldn't the onus to be on
you to inform your waiter
prior to the start of the meal that you do not support the American custom of tipping for service in restaurants and therefore you will not be tipping anyone for their services. This allows the waiter to decide (perhaps after consulting with management) whether or not she would like to serve you, since it is you, rather than the waiter, who is deviating from standard business practice?
