This discussion started me noodling around the internet. Here is a website that lists the salary of a maid by state. When you click on the state, a list of cities appear for further refinement.

The national average is just over $21,000. My trusty calculator puts that at $400+ a week. I would think it is very hard to get by on that money in any urban area.
