The housekeepers are hardworking, low paid women supporting families. If anybody needs their job and certainly earns their pay, it's the maids. It is harder physical work than the door man, bell staff and wait staff. If you can afford a 5 star room and routinely tip the others, why get on a high horse about a few dollars to the maids? They don't take tipping for granted, so any tip at all, any day you choose to leave it, is much more appreciated.
There are lots of hard working low income people. We already have a ridiculously bloated nanny state to keep them from falling between the cracks. On top of that, they are not all personally my responsibility. This naive desire to put everyone equal has been growing alongside the entitlement addiction. Life isn't fair.
