Being on the 7th floor of a building does not make sense to me in a tornado. It seems to me if there is a basement, even if it is used for housekeeping normally, in an emergency it should be available to guests. With all of the radar and early warning systems, one usually has a window to get to safety. I think if there is a below ground option, (which there was in my opinion), it should be available in a hotel emergency situation.
The way Embassy Suites are built, with the rooms on the outside of the hotel, seems to me that would be very unsafe in a tornado, even more so than many other hotel properties.
Maybe the basement isn't big enough to accommodate typical guest loads? It probably also opens up some legal repercussions. One never knows what kind of legal whirl wind you could get yourself in to in the current US legal system where someone else is always responsible for one's stupidity or poor judgement... Just a thought...
