Is it just me, or do you guys think that the whole Chinese-based hotel isn't necessarily a good idea? All the Chinese I know love foreign things, and in China there is a bit of prestige about staying at a 洲际酒店 - or even more at say the 上海柏悦酒店. These are Chinese names for foreign chains....not necessarily hotels that cater to westerners. The Chinese know what the brands are, probably will know that Hua Luxe or whatever it's called is still owned by a foreign company. We all know that the majority of the IHG hotels in China do indeed cater to Chinese customers, and often I'm the only foreigner at a property.
I know that Chinese love tea and noodles, but in a certain setting they also would enjoy showing off their appreciation for foreign foods and foreign drinks as well. This to me isn't going to do them any good, and I don't think it will succeed. What they need to do is clean up their HIX strategy and stop all the Jinjiang Inn, Motel 168, Green Tree Inn, etc from stealing all their business
