PIM means Personal Information Management, a term coined for software on the PC. PIM software is a combination contacts, email, scheduling, and journal/diary manager. MS Outlook and Lotus Notes are probably the most common PIMs, though there are others.

I like the PIM functions on iOS and Android phones, though I don't use them for business and have to do a lot of manual setup to keep my contacts and email synced with my PCs.
