Just remember you are doing them a favor by taking the bump... I always have Alt routes just in case a bump happens, when I do get routed, I always make sure I'm not booked in a fare bucket that wont net me miles too, GA are known to do this...

I did ask about that, and she told I had been put on the list for the upgrade, but she couldn't do anything to get me the upgrade. Perhaps I should have pushed the issue a little more? There were two or three seats open maybe, but I would argue that is Delta's most Elite-heavy route, LAX to Atlanta. I had heard that they can work magic, but guess she didn't want to.
And honestly I didn't think of LAX-JFK-TPA, thought it might have helped.
