I am sure this is in the forum but I have tried searching and the queries are difficult to accurately pull...

I purchased a ticket on Delta, was confirmed a seat but was told that my seat would be assigned at the gate... I know how this works, and normally they have the flight overbooked and continue to ask for volunteers for $400 delta dollars and a first class flight until someone gives up their seat for me. My flight was at 9 PM arriving at my destination at 7 AM the next day. Unfortunately the next flight was at 8 AM the next day, arriving at 6 PM that evening... a big gap.

They needed 6 volunteers, they got nobody and although I was promised a seat at time of purchase they wouldn't let me on the flight! They pushed me to take the next flight, the following day and I had to miss a very important job interview!!!!!

Was there anything I can do? This was horsesh*t! If I buy a ticket and am told I have a seat guaranteed, just not assigned how can they do this to me! They can't just bank on all of the volunteers! Help please!
