So, you have no problem with sequence numbers being used to determine upgrades, not to mention involuntary denied boardings? It is OK with you for airlines to incorporate sequence numbers (along with status, fare basis, etc) in the decision making process? Yet if a passenger applies similar methodology as the airline does, it is unacceptable? I don't get that.

And yes, travel is a battle. I admit I obsess a bit more than the next guy. But that's to prevent bad things from happening. Traveling with a copy of the contract of carriage, traveling with inventory data of other airlines (particularly alliance partners), checking seat assignments daily, embracing Expertflyer, waking up at 0300 to claim awards, maintaining back up award reservations when flying for pleasure...aren't these all wise strategies and part of the "battle"? I'm shocked at how many people, particularly on Flyertalk, seem content with hoping karma solves all their travel challenges.
