Why would you answer the door at that hour of the morning? You should have just called security, and if that didn't work called the local police.

If for whatever reason you need to open the door to see who it is, do so with the bar or chain lock on so they can't get in.

Not sure what would make it right, but I would expect you already got their answer in the form letter.
