If I interpreted your statement to be "we got split up because we never even checked to see if we were together, because we are clueless, and we like to believe things in life will always work out well for us, fa la la la la" then YES, I would have shut you down. (BTW - I'm not flaming you AT ALL, but we both know this is how some people treat travel).

However, if your statement was long the lines of "because of a flight irregularity beyond our control, British Airways' systems were not initially able to keep us seated together, despite the fact that we have been checking our assignments every day for the past several months" then it is HIGHLY likely I would have taken mercy.

And yes, just like checking the doors at home are locked at night, I check the seat assignments of every reservation I'm holding each morning. It is very satisfying to reach out to the airline regarding an irregularity, before their systems make you aware of it. Like I said, travel is a battle.
