To the OP - reward availability on direct routes such as YYZ-FCO is challenging at the best of times. You should consider indirects such as those already mentioned or perhaps YEG-DEN-IAD-FCO probably on UA. The UA C product is OK but not stellar, but it's obviously better than Y.

Another option is look at going the other way which might not cost you any more in points but will obviously take more time. A sample route might be YEG-YVR-NRT-BKK-FCO.
