As a somewhat broad-shouldered passenger, I suspect I'd appreciate FAs asking this on occasion, as opposed to walking down the aisle and hitting me in the shoulder again as I try to avoid impinging on my neighbor's space. During boarding, if I have an aisle seat, I usually lean forward to give my seatmate plenty of room as I dodge the bags hanging from the arms and shoulders of pax coming down the aisle.
