I disagree. If some hypothetical passenger hits 500,000 miles, he would certainly deserve to be treated better than a DM. It makes sense to have a tier for the absolute best of the best customers (think BA Premier).
Such a person could hypotheticallly be GS on UA, ExPlat on AA, AND DM on DL, giving them much better flexibility, earning, and redeeming opportunities. It would make little sense, at least to me, to fly that much and only maintain status on one alliance.
