Canceling, Re-Booking Return Portion of Award

Hi all,

I am still quite new to Delta but am trying my best to learn the SkyMiles' award rules. Here is my situation: last December I redeemed a round-trip Award from Hong Kong to Philadelphia, with a stopover in SNA. I am currently in SNA and am scheduled to return to Hong Kong in a week. Unfortunately I am unable to return to Hong Kong at this time.

The issue is I know that I will be returning to Hong Kong within my ticket's validity, but I do not know exactly when this may be.

With United MileagePlus, I could cancel my upcoming (and final) leg to HK, then within a year call to have the final segment rebooked--assuming mileage availability at the low level--after being assessed a change fee. Can I do the same with SkyMiles?

As a non-elite I am subject to change fees and am trying to avoid being charged the fee twice (once to move it out way in the future right now, and second to my actual departure date when I have figured out when I can go).

Your help and thoughts are much appreciated. Thanks!
