If you have a Sapphire, you can access the portal site from your Chase account to book travel, redeem your points, etc.
And I think you can indeed get 3 points/dollar if you book your flights there (not sure if using the Sapphire card is required).

I personally think that you don't lose anything by using your Sapphire instead of PPlus.
