I have an eight hour transit at IST. I would like to get my boarding pass at the transit desk, then go up airside to the Departures level, use the lounge to shower, come back down to the Arrivals level, and then exit through immigration and go in to town for dinner. No problem in accessing the departure level with a onward BP and then returning to the arrivals level using the stairs/lift next to Burger King in the food court. I haven't done this since the introduction of the new security arrangements but doubt there is any change.
