Don't get me wrong, give me the skylights and jacuzzi any day!! But it can be somewhat annoying when a hotel 'upgrades' you without your permission (ie, no option to say no thank you) to something they consider better but you may not (e.g. a King bed rather than 2 beds, when you are staying with someone other than a lover!)There is one hotel we stay at somewhat often, which has a very limited number of 1 bedroom suites, and they routinely 'upgrade' people to lakeside cabana which are lovely in their own right, and do cost more, but are not my preferred type of accommodation, I prefer a higher floor with private balconies. As they oversell the 1 bedrooms, it means some people don't have the option to say 'no thanks', which I don't agree with. Depending on circumstance, I appreciate the gesture absolutely, and sometimes a friend and I will happily take a King bed together in a lovely upgraded suite rather than the two doubles we booked, but I think upgrades should be offered as (granted, usually lovely) choices, not fait acomplis.
