I have an upcoming trip that has 4 segments which means for a little more than $200 I can essentially buy 12,000 bonus miles. Now I know these don't count as MQM's but if I throw this into this trip (which my company is paying for) I pay $200 for a total of 17,000 miles, 5,000 of which are MQM's.

What do you think, worth it or no? Trying to grab as many miles as I can to fly my GF and I to South America next year. Already have 125K miles banked, so an extra 17K certainly doesn't hurt.
Basic concept: They wouldn't be offering the deal if it were not a far better deal for the airline than it was for you.

If you need the miles for a near-term award ticket, assuming you are confident (not just optimistic) that you can get the award for the anticipated mileage, then you might want to go for it.

Considering the rumors floating now of a possible devaluation of miles, I would not buy any miles to hold for the long-term.

Of course, by buying miles, you might more firmly position yourself in the plaintiff class of any class-action lawsuit that might arise in the future.
