Nothing new, I had the same thing happen to me in ORD last year, after the WTMD beeped, I was escorted into the 3 sided box and told to wait.

A screener came along shortly, opened the door, escorted me to the conveyer belt and asked me to identify my items, she then swabbed only the insides of both my shoes and checked for ETD, when I passed the test I was allowed to enter the sterile area.

At the time I only asked her to change her gloves, if it ever happens to me again and I know it will, this time after they change their gloves, I will request a brand new swab and it be tested before they swab any of my items to prevent any false positives caused by cross contamination.

I know that changing gloves when requested by a passenger is in their SOP, I was told this by a screener in TPA, but I don’t know if pre-testing the swab is in their SOP, but I will see what happens the next time I get selected for a random inspection.

Just more security theater.
