Is this even possible? i.e. Use award for outward leg and pay cash for return?

Or would I need a totally separate ticket? i.e either expensive one way or return (to use other portion again or throwaway ;-)

For instance, if I used my miles to book a business flight going out, could I then pay cash for an economy coming back?
