My oft-repeated value of 0.75p for an Avios is simply roughly what it seems to work out at for J redemptions compared to the cheapest alternative.
NYC is 80k + £500 taxes, so £1100 at 0.75p. This is about right, you can buy a J seat to NYC for that, albeit not BA and not necessarily direct and you may need to wait for a sale. And it is not refundable if you pay cash. And so on.
