A few year's ago we booked USAIR award tickets in F, flying NAS-CLT-LAX (where we changed to Qantas metal and were treated like Kings in their lounge) and continuned on to MEL ~ the service was impeccable. The same was true of our return out of SYD a few weeks later.
Our plane landed in LAX several hours early before the CLT flight (with USAIR) and we thought we could spend the time in their lounge. I've seen/heard the expression of Dragon ladies? We came across what must have been the Mother of all Dragons worldwide! She looked at our tickets and then shook her head; "NO-CAN-DO! Our lounges are for paying passengers and you're traveling on FREE tickets!" Having enjoyed some of the most luxurious travel with Qantas, possibly the best service ever, my husband and I just looked at her in disbelief ~ all we wanted was some coffe in a calm area.
Our FREE? tickets were the accumilation of years of loyalty to USAIR, many many, thousands of miles. Crumbs was that woman ugly and obviously had a pea for a brain. That lounge was completely empty at the time. We weren't humiliated ~ we were too dumbfounded and angry
