I didn't realize you could do the individual top-up each time vs. having it linked to your card. Looking at my Skype account I signed up for auto-refill a couple of years ago (probably when they were promoting it) & have only topped it up one time since then - until the hacker did yesterday.
So - how do I 'un auto refill' my account?
Today's Skype message shows a refund (ie, there are 5 refunds to match the 5 charges, which last night there wasn't, although refunds haven't shown up on my Chase account yet), then it says auto-recharge was suspended due to reaching my monthly spending limit.
In checking my Chase account there's a $10 charge pending & I thought the hacker was at it again, but in checking Skype it was them trying to do an auto-refill when my account fell below $10, but it says canceled. It says the 3-digits didn't match or credit card issuer detected fraud, so not sure why it's showing as pending on Chase, but since it was declined Chase must have bounced it or actually shut down the card. I need to call this morning.
Also I need to find out what happened to the actual Skype credit that was valid/mine because right now it doesn't show any amount, just a message to call cheaply to any phone or mobile w/ a link. That might have to wait until the other gets sorted. Given I've only topped up once in 2 years, I don't use it that often. But I'm not going to make Skype a gift of the amount, especially given the hours & hassle this has been.
If the other refunds (she called them reversals, but the Skype messages say refunds) don't show up on the account to offset the charges, I'll challenge all of them w/ Chase. I have a transcript & Session ID from last night's live help w/ Skype, and my Skype account shows a transaction # w/ each charge & refund, so I've got plenty of written documentation.
Re: having a 2nd cc for travel. I do have one, but in a perfect case of Murphy's Law that one was shut down to a 'data breach' w/ the bank & the new one is in the mail.
Cheers.
