Thanks everyone for the input. Being a noob, all i've done is try it out on the delta website and nowhere else. So the best option is to find the seats on ExpertFlyer (just got a membership) and then call up Delta and book with flight numbers and dates? Will they automatically note the normal award fare, not the crazy 260k fare that i get on the DL website? Thanks again for the tips!
Seats on partners are only available at low, at least as far as your proposed trip is concerned. Just make sure you only use low DL flights, and all will be well. Go for low domestic coach if low domestic F isn't available.
