The cost to buy AMEX MR points was recently increased to $.03/point from $0.02/point, at least for Canadian card holders.
"The cost to purchase Membership Rewards points is $3.00 (plus applicable taxes) per 100 points up to a maximum of 25% of the total points required for the reward you are redeeming. A minimum of 1,000 points must be purchased and purchases must be made in 100 point increments."
