As a tiny example of what Randy possibly alludes to, I do know there were a LOT of FlyerTalkers angry at Hilton in recent times for completely removing total point balances from accounts that had not had any activity for 12 months or so.

Reports of 6 figure balances being nuked were made, and Hilton were often not budging it seems on pleading attempts to re-activate them.

My pure guess is that this will become the "norm" - not the exception in future years - and for airlines too. All pretty much now have the PROVISO to do this AFAIK in their T+C .. but seldom invoke that right.

I do not know about others but I must have "orphan" balances in a dozen or so hotel and airline accounts I will probably never use. If they cancelled those balances I'd probably never know or really care.
