Ok, a real newbie question. Sorry. A buddy of mine needs to bring his sister-in-law and mother-in-law out from LAX. She wants to stop in HNL (the sister in law) for a triathalon for a few days and then head to SIN. Stop here in SIN for a week or so and then back to LAX.

I had a quick look at the AP Partner Award Chart and I think its 75K miles per person in Y. And the only real options are UA between LAX and HNL, then HNL to NRT and either SQ/NH/UA to SIN.

Dates of travel - Leave LAX 17 May, HNL to SIN around 22 May and then depart SIN back to LAX on 9th June.

When I checked using the award tool on UA.com, I could see availability but not sure if AC will have access to the same inventory.

If she has 155K miles in her account, can she pull one Y and J award, and simply buy the rest of the miles she needs (the AP site mentioned this top up feature but it didn't say how many you could buy and much they were, but I am assuming 3.5 cents per mile)

Appreciate any advice, better routing options or any suggestions.
