Applicable rule is IATA Baggage Rule Resolution 302 from March or April last year (don't remember which).

Bags shouldn't have to be rechecked at ORD - AA is able to check bags through to India. You will have to pick up your bag at the end of the last AI flight you take - so if you are flying ATL-ORD-DEL-HYD, you would pick up at HYD, since DEL-HYD is an AI segment. However, if you are flying ATL-ORD-DEL-BLR, you would pick up at DEL, since DEL-BLR is an IC segment.

Thanks for the clarification. My final destination is BLR. So, I will have to complete the customs in Del. I am following the other thread which discusses this in more detail. There is only a 2 hour difference between DEL arrival and BLR departure.
